We decided to go with the tumbler style compost bins because we read so many good reviews online about how easy it is to turn and mix the heap. We also read that it helps speed up the decomposition. The compost tumbler bins are a fully sealed container which can be rotated to mix the composting materials. The sealed container also helps contain the heat generated by the composting process, which then speeds the process of converting your kitchen and yard waste into compost. Compost tumblers were invented to make composting simpler and faster.
In the past we have made the DIY compost bins made of wire and pallets and those are great too. This time we wanted something to speed up the decomposition of the green matter and kitchen waste. Once we picked this one up from our local Costco warehouse the husband started putting it together with a little help from myself or my Mom. As it wasn’t that easy and not at all a one person job because of the plastic pieces having to slide together. (it takes two people one to hold one piece and the other to slide them together) It took a few hours and the husband was a little disappointed in the fact that it wasn’t as easy as it looks. He said with all the time it took maybe we should have just stuck to the DIY pallet bins we already had.
AJ putting the kitchen waste into the compost bin.
Now it is outside and we are putting it to good use. It is made well and is heavy duty (with bad storms equals hard rain/hail and strong winds and it’s held up well against the weather so far.) I love how easy it is to turn it seems to be heating up quickly with it being black. I look forward to using the matter in our garden.
